At St Cuthbert’s we encourage engagement in environmental and sustainable development issues, empowering young people to make positive changes within our school and community, fostering environmental awareness and building essential skills.

As part of our Pupil Voice we have a very active Eco Group who contribute to the school’s ESDGC programme.

 Our newly formed Green Team for 2025-2026 have already been busy working away to ensure we have an Eco-friendly environment. We have set ourselves with the aim of achieving our bronze and silver Eco-schools awards and are working hard to make those goals come true. 

Our Green Team have been working hard across the school year! We have completed our environmental review, developed a year long calendar for the key action days that we will be celebrating this year! We have planned and monitored the schools 10 day turn event which saw us placing 9th in the league table of Cardiff schools that reduced their electricity usage across the two weeks! 

We have created our school eco code as a whole school. Every class contributed to our code by providing a line each and we have created a lovely eco code prayer for our school. This will soon be displayed around the school and in every class. 

We have celebrated achieving our bronze  Eco award and are currently working hard to achieve our silver award. 

As a school we explored the meaning of Fairtrade and took part in a range of activities considering the importance of Fairtrade. We led an assembly to the whole school and then played the role as the teacher for the afternoon and led a fairtrade activity to each of our PS3 classes. 

We are currently collecting used batteries to help raise money for our school and encouraging recycling. Please bring any old and used batteries into school so we can add them to our growing collection.
